Interview with M.C. Pearson and 'F.A.I.R.I.E.S.: Baptism by Fire' Giveaway!

Today I am interviewing M. C. Pearson, author of
F.A.I.R.I.E.S.: Baptism by Fire.
M.C., welcome to Hardcover Feedback! Would you tell us a little about yourself?
Sure! I'm a stay-at-home homeschooling mom. I write, draw, and blog in my spare time. I have been a sergeant in the US Army, a houseparent for 'at-risk' kids, and a nanny. I graduated from San Jose State University with a BA in Art in 1990. My husband and I volunteer with our church's youth group. I have two awesome boys, a loving hubby, two dogs, and one fat cat. We live in the most beautiful state in the US, North Carolina.

What are you currently working on?
At this very moment you caught me trying to format my book for Kindle. I'm also working on the second book in the Realm Series, F.A.I.R.I.E.S.: Oh, Pixiedust! I'm about 1/3 of the way into it. I've another book going as well. It is not in the Realm, but it is fantasy. It's called Cheat Codes for Life, and it's about a gamergirl who decides to check out a new website that was recommended to her during an online chat...she goes from high school grunge to cheerleader in the time it takes to press 'Enter'.

What or who made the biggest influence on you wanting to become a writer?
The first time I realized that reading was fun was in 10th grade, when I was forced to read The Once and Future King by T. H. White. Fantasy and sci-fi became my world. But, I believe I must blame my husband most of all. He reads and reads, and got me to read more too. We've spoken about writing for a long time. We even have one idea for a humorous romance that we plan to write together. As for an author that has influenced me, that would have to be J. K. Rowling. I just love her humor as well as her tender stories. Many of my friends and family won't read her books because of the witchcraft. It made me want to write a Christian fantasy, so that they can enjoy a fun, fantastical world too.

What was the first book you ever wrote about, and was it ever published?
I wrote a short story in high school about the Bermuda Triangle. No, it was never published, but I so enjoyed writing it!

Do you have any writing habits that people might find unusual?
I write when everyone else in the house is asleep. That way, I can hear my own thoughts and God's soft voice whispering in my ear. If I have to write when others are awake, I use the ear muffs that came with our weed-wacker. I look ridiculous, but it allows my boys to play their electric guitars and drums! (They are in a youth worship band.)

I have heard that some authors listen to music while they write. Do you? If so, what do you usually listen to?
No, unless you count my boys playing. I have listened to my church's awesome band, The Outpouring, while blogging.

Do you have a favorite character or one that is especially close to your heart?
I really love Zandra, the she-elf. She reminds me of my best friend from high school, who was also my maid of honor at my wedding. She's really lovable and stands by Mellie, the main character. I relate mostly to Mellie though.

What is the best gift you have ever received and who gave it to you?
Gosh, that's a hard question! I've received so many special gifts in my life. I think that the best one was an easel that my parents gave me while I was in junior high. They knew how much art meant to me and had it made especially for me.

What are three things (not people) that you wouldn't want to live without?
My bible, my pillow, and dental floss.

What is something that you have always wanted to do, but just haven't gotten around to it yet?
Take my kids to Disneyworld.

All the music in the world is being destroyed and you can only save one album, what would you save and why?
Keith Green's Gold Collection. I can always listen to it and never get sick of it. Many of his songs brought me through rough times. I can't wait to sing with him in heaven. What a fun time that will be.

What is your all-time favorite book? What is your favorite book you have read this year?
There are so many! You're mean! Okay, let me think...I guess it would be Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I've read it several times...and love watching the A&E version of it on my DVD player. This year...wow...it would have to be Havah: The Story of Eve by Tosca Lee.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
I play Halo on the X-box. Yes, I admit it. I love all of the Halo games.

Are you an early bird or a night owl?
Night owl...no contest. I sometimes am going to bed when my husband is getting up for work!

If you were throwing a dinner party and you could invite five people (fictional or real, dead or alive) who would you invite?
Jane Austen, Steve Martin, Piers Anthony, Mark Twain, and Mercedes Lackey.

You are given a ticket that will bring you anywhere that you want to go, at anytime in history. Where would you want to go and why?
I think I'd like to go to see Jesus preach the Sermon on the Mount. Can you imagine being there, soaking in His wisdom?

Where can people connect with you online?
I have several blogs (personal blog is Mimi's Pixie Corner) and a facebook account (Mimi Pearson). I love meeting new people online!

Thanks you so much M.C. for being on Hardcover Feedback!
