Lady Celine Wexham seems the model British subject. French by birth but enjoying life in 1813 as a widowed English countess, she is in the unique position of being able to help those in need--or to spy for the notorious Napoleon Bonaparte. When Rees Phillips of the British Foreign Office is sent to pose as the countess's butler and discover where her true loyalties lie, he is confident he will uncover the truth. But the longer he is in her fashionable townhouse in London's West End, the more his staunch loyalty to the Crown begins to waver as he falls under Lady Wexham's spell. Will he find the proof he needs? And if she is a spy after all, will he do the right thing?
I GIVE THIS BOOK:
MY THOUGHTS:
I had an extremely hard time reading this book. Every time I started reading it I would become so bored that I couldn't read more than 20 pages without starting to fall asleep! Needless to say I didn't rush to pick it back up again.
I'm not sure what exactly made it such a chore to read. I know I didn't care for the way most of the story was told, it went from pages of description to very little dialogue and then back to more description - very boring! This made me feel little to no connection with the characters, I felt like someone observing the characters from afar instead of experiencing everything right along with them.
When I finally reached the conclusion, I was very disappointed - the ending was so abrupt! I know there is going to be a book about a different character from Moonlight Masquerade and so these characters may make an appearance in it, but that doesn't make a difference to me. The ending should have been a little longer.
I have only read one other book by this author, which I enjoyed, so I'm sure I will read some of her other books but this one just didn't do it for me. I don't recommend Moonlight Masquerade.
***I received a complimentary copy of this book to review. I was asked to give my honest opinion of the book - which I have done.**
“Available March 2013 at your favorite bookseller from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group.”
