Camy, welcome to Hardcover Feedback! Thank you SO much for being a part of my 1st Blogoversary Celebration! Would you tell us a little about yourself?
Thanks for having me here, Megan! I grew up in Hawaii (which really isn’t as glamorous as that sounds) and now I live in northern California. I love knitting, running, reading, and recently I’ve gotten a little into beading, making ribbon bookmarks.
What or who made the biggest influence on you wanting to become a writer?
My mom has always been very supportive. She never told me I shouldn’t or couldn’t be a writer, although she did give me the practical bit of information that most writers don’t make much money, but she didn’t say it to deter me. She’s always been very encouraging about my writing career, even before I became published.
What was the first book you ever wrote about and was it ever published?
The first book I wrote was a 1000-page (seriously--I recently found it under the bed) monstrosity that I wrote as a teenager and will never see the light of day. It was about pastel colored unicorns. That fly.
Do you have any writing habits that people might find unusual?
I don’t know that it’s unusual, but I really need potato chips and other munchies when I write. I’ve tried healthy snacks and it doesn’t work. As soon as I start with the chips, the writing will take off. Consequently, I gain about 5 pounds per book.
Do you have a favorite character or one that is especially close to your heart?
My favorite so far is Tessa Lancaster, who stars in my Protection for Hire series. She’s tough and can take care of herself, but she’s also been really hurt by her closest family. She’s struggling to walk away from her old life in the mafia, which keeps creeping up on her in both distressing and funny ways.
Maybe because we just had Valentine’s Day, but I remember the best gift my husband ever gave me for V-Day. He knew I loved the really old Regency romances and so he went to my bookshelf and looked at the spines to see the symbols and publishers of the books I liked, then he went to a used bookstore and searched the shelves for the same publishers and symbols! He bought me a stack of old Regency romances for V-Day. It was the most thoughtful gift he’s ever given to me.
What is something that you have always wanted to do, but just haven't gotten around to it yet?
I really want to visit England! I’ll actually get a chance to this year in September. Woohoo!
What is your all-time favorite book?
Persuasion by Jane Austen. Most romantic love letter ever!!!!!!!
Jane Austen. I reread all her books at least once a year.
If a TV show was based on your life, what would the theme song be and why?
Weird Science. Haha! Seriously, I’m a total nerd.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I love to knit, spin wool into yarn, make cards, and recently I started making beaded ribbon bookmarks. They’re fun.
Are you an early bird or a night owl?
Definitely night owl.
What is your favorite TV show and/or movie?
I have tons! It’s hard to narrow things down. I recently saw an episode of Inspector Lewis which was cool.
If you had the opportunity to go anywhere you wanted, at anytime in history, where would you go and why?
Regency England! Let’s ignore the bad hygiene and focus on the pretty dresses. :)
You are given an unlimited budget to plan your ultimate party. Please describe it (i.e. Where would it take place? Who would be on the guest list? What would be on the menu? Would there be a theme? etc.).
It would be in England in some manor house, kind of a Regency House Party, and my writing friends would join me (and my husband would be there but he’d probably be bored silly).
What are you currently working on?
The second book in my Protection for Hire series, A Dangerous Stage. I have edits due on the book soon.

Very interesting new facts about Camy! I would never have guessed she's a fan of Regency romances. What a great gift from her husband! I also love the trivia about eating potato chips! I'll have to try it.
ReplyDeleteGreat interview, Megan and Camy! Lol! Loved the pastel colored unicorn part =D I've heard so many great things about Protection for Hire and would love to win a copy! Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteI love Jane Austen too. :)
ReplyDeleteI love Jane Austen as well, and a 1000-page STORY AS A TEENAGER, that's super impressive..and about pastel unicorns no less, super cute. I can barely write 10 pages without crying.
ReplyDeleteI think it's so cool that she loved to make beaded ribbon bookmarks. I'd love to see those! I can't wait to read this book!
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to read this book for the longest time! It look amazing!
ReplyDeleteI don't ever get the giveaways :(
ReplyDeleteWhat a great gift from your husband! Can't wait to read Protection for Hire!
ReplyDeleteI have read one Camy Tang book and can't wait to read another.
ReplyDeleteI loved what she shared about the gift from her husband! That is super sweet that he took the time to do that. I should share that with my husband that a similar idea would work for me. :)
ReplyDeleteI thought your first story you ever wrote (about unicorns) was interesting. Don't we all have those stories lurking in the back of our closets that will NEVER see the light?! :-P
ReplyDeleteYou really read ALL of Jane Austen's books every year? Wow! I love the stories, but have a hard time wading through the books! Not that I don't love them, but once a year? Wow!

I am glad to see someone else say that Persuasion is their favorite book. I LOVE it and after all that we see Anne go through it makes the ending that much sweeter. All of Jane Austen's other heroines have lives and are able to enjoy them but Anne seems to just "live" but not happily.

I'm excited to see Camy loves the Regency period, maybe she will be inspired to write a book set in that era!
